Collection: Cashmere and Knitwear

We are incredibly lucky to live in the rural Scottish Borders. Galashiels is the principal Borders town for shopping and was built around a thriving Woollen Mill industry. Many of our beautiful buildings and homes around the town were built for the mill owners and their staff. Running from one end of the town to the other runs the Mill Lade and series of culverts which once supplied soft water from the river Gala and its tributaries essential for the craft, the mills grew around this system.

Sadly very few mills remain in the Borders and other than a textile dyeing and finishing mill on the low road and a highly prominent and successful wool grading mill at the other end of town, very little of the trade remains in Galashiels - however we do lay claim to the prestigious and world renowned Scottish College of Textiles now under the banner of School of Textile & Design within Heriot Watt University. For decades students have come from all over the world to learn textile and fashion design.

More recently the opening of a cultural hub and celebration of all things SCOTLAND from pre history to modern day in the shape of The Great Tapestry of Scotland has opened in the middle of the town. Housed in a purpose built and in my opinion, beautiful building which incorporates the old Post Office building dating from 1894.

We also have a kickass wool shop called Unwind Yarns - worth a visit.

So its really a given that we should stock some beautifully made pieces of cashmere and knitwear. Some local, some not - but no less favourable. We look for sustainability, ethical practices, high welfare and beautiful pieces.
